Film

Hey, can anyone tell me how to post reviews on friendster? I used to be able to do it, but have they taken that away or something?

Well, a few days ago the gurlz and I went to Comic’s corner and while I was there I borrowed some movies. They are "A Very Long Engagement", "Behind The Sun" and "Big Fish"

A Very Long Engagement

I was ready for a touching romantic movie when I decided to borrow this, and thankfully I was not wrong. The story is about a young lady named Mattilda, and her search for her "they said dead, but she believe is not dead" fiance who went on a war, Manesh. I have to say Tatou did a wonderful job, and

Half of the movie scences is about tragic battle field, a quarter about a desperate searching and the rest covers loving romantic scences. The movie is long, and yes, there are too many French names and faces, and a lot of flashbacks that sometimes can lead to confusion (Just like what happened when my friends kept going "Which one is that? Is that Tina? Oh, no, that’s someone else?" or "Who’s that? Who’s this" and "So what’s happening now?") However, there’s no reason not to love this movie, it has superb pictures, delightful acting and touching storyline. At the end of the movie, you will experience a moment where you  feel that "true love does exist". Four stars from me.

Oh, No I have to go now, this review is not even finished. I’ll edit it later. Bye bye

So, what I’m doing now is trying to get ideas and inspirations coming for my comparison essay while watching the TV (believe me, it works!) I was planning to spend the whole day for my essay writing but since my wardrobe is kind of broken you know, I needed to sort out all the clothing. I couldn’t believe that it would take me that long, so as soon as I finished I already forgot about my essay (I was reading "Daughter of Fortune" instead) And now there’s a movie on – "Helen of Troy". To be honest, this one is actually better than the Brad Pitt one where the events are just truly inaccurate. Even for the one that I’m watching now, it clearly reflects how the writer has very limited knowledge in history. For example this one, Hector said something about "the Spartans want to attack us because we have all the silk and spices from Byzantium".. Aha, anyone would know that Byzantium would have not even existed by then. Whatever the reason is, I hate the idea of love between Helen and Paris. I know Helen is not treated well by Menelaus and the others, but just because of the great love story between Paris and Helen, everyone died. And the most important thing is that I don’t believe in love anyway. Love is just absurd and yet non-existent. And there is such thing as a feeling of trust that we need for our assurance of safety (just like what Maslow said about how we need safety), but I just don’t believe it’s love.

Oh well, no big deal.. I think it’s better if I continue with my essay.

Today was a very productive day for me..

Well in the morning, my host mum, Nela who is an Indonesian tutor asked me to come with her to St.Paul college. We were helping the Indonesian teachers to assist these year 12 Indonesian students (from St.Paul, Xavier College, etc) to practice for their exam.. and wow.. they all speak fluent Indonesia. I was pretty amazed.

I was planning to watch "Howl’s Moving Castle" today but my sister couldn’t come so I ended up watching "The Forty Years Old Virgin". It was quite funny when you think of the concept of the story; a man who is forty years old but still enjoys collecting cartoon figures, playing playstation games and afterall, still a virgin. However, the movie is a skit full of sexual contents and vulgar humour. Some of the parts made me laugh but the rest is mainly rude. I think it deserves two stars out of five. (Gee, I think I’d better watch some good movies)

I had my work induction – it lasted for seven hours. It wasn’t actually that bad. Firstly we just needed to do lots of boring paperwork such as: Tax File form, Workplace agreement, and more things to sign. Other than that it was just fine.

After the induction, which was held at the Boost Juice head office at Westfield Marion, I went to see "The Dukes of Hazzard". The movie is a parody full of slapsticks and violent visual humour. A lot of stereotypes in characters, settings and plot are used, causing the story to be predictable. Afterall, the movie is no more than just a never ending car-chase. One and a half out of Five stars from me.
